About
I am a hobby breeder of fancy mice in New York, USA. My main focus is on longhaired and texel mice in lilac, gold, and blue. I am not a feeder breeder, nor do I breed mice for money or for quantity. I have enjoyed owning and breeding mice for many years. After adopting my first mouse, a beautiful blue texel, I fell in love with mice. I wanted to learn more about the genetics and varieties that they come in. Before deciding to breed I spent a lot of time researching and learning about mice and proper care and breeding ethics, and continue to learn more today. I am a member of both the Fancy Mice Breeders forum (www.fancymicebreeders.com), and a U.S. based site called The Mouse Connection (http://www.themouseconnection.org), which I encourage both pet owners and breeders to join.
Breeding beautiful and healthy mice begins with knowing about their past in order to improve every future generation. For this reason, I find it very important to keep detailed records of all my mice. Therefore, I make my own detailed pedigrees for all mice bred and born at SCM, which (if applicable) are available upon request.
Nothing is more important then ensuring that my mice are as well cared for as possible. My mice are kept in my home in spacious tanks with paper-based toys and soild-floored wheels. Females are kept in small groups and males are kept solitary or in pairs (depending on their temperament). I use aspen and/or Carefresh for bedding, not harmful pine or cedar. All the tanks are cleaned and scrubed at least once a week with mild detergent. I also clean/replace any toys when the tanks are cleaned and rinse out their water bottles. All my mice are handled daily and given individual attention.
